Our History
BJ’s father was a programmer during his service in the U.S. Air Force and then for UNIVAC, so he worked with some of the earliest hardware and programming languages.
In the 80’s, BJ’s father founded and led one of the leading U.S. federal government contractors, an Inc. 500 company that experienced exponential growth even in its earliest years, outbidding the likes of AT&T for government contracts. (If you’ve been in a government office in D.C. or even an SSA office anywhere in the country, you’ve been around equipment installed by BJ’s father.) The company was led by BJ’s father for over a decade and through its acquisition and subsequent listing on the public stock market.
Finally, BJ’s dad, unable to stop working after he retired, invented a whole-home connectivity device—the “Connex box.” It was well over a decade ahead of its time, but Lakeside Tech is re-developing it for use in its smart home designs.
BJ has spent his life deeply involved in all aspects of technology because of his family history. First, he started a web media company when he was 12, sponsoring and exhibiting at industry conferences when he was 15. BJ’s dad “manned the booth” while BJ was in meetings with executives from the largest tech companies. And then, he spent his days on the Stanford campus and eventually founded a cloud computing startup when he was 23.
Next, BJ became interested in social anthropology and met his wife in Mexico. Then, his son was born. They’ve remained in Mexico for now, and have lived in various places across the country, having now settled in the Lake Chapala region.
BJ remains actively involved in the wider tech industry. He is now working on various startup companies in fintech, healthtech, and social media.
